Greater Manchester Council has confirmed council tax rises and £100m in spending cuts

Some people living in Greater Manchester could see their Council Tax rise this year.

Stockport and Trafford councils have so far confirmed a 4.99% increase in council tax.

In addition, social workers in some areas will face layoffs to make ends meet.

Spending on public services in Greater Manchester will also be affected.

Most councils will cut local services

Most local councils in the UK will adjust local service expenditures.

Faced with budget deficits, a majority of councils in the UK will raise council taxes and cut community services.

Over half of the councils anticipate future cuts in spending on waste collection, road maintenance, libraries, and other services.

Expenditures on adult and child care services will also be reduced, impacting the lives of local residents to some extent.

Stamp Duty (SDLT) shows huge regional differences

The UK housing platform Rightmove recently pointed out significant regional differences in Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT).

In the UK, people are required to pay SDLT when purchasing properties above a certain value.

SDLT rates vary across regions, ranging from 5% to 12%.

However, due to soaring property prices, only 4% of properties for sale in the London area qualify for exemption.

eBay to start charging sellers’ regulatory operating fee’ next month

Starting in April, eBay will impose a “Regulatory Operating Fee” on sellers.

eBay recently announced that effective April 8, they will charge a 0.35% fee on the total sales amount, including postage, to all platform sellers.

The platform considers the surge in regulations between different countries and regions, necessitating the hiring of teams to maintain platform compliance.

Currently, this fee will affect anyone selling goods in the UK, Austria, Belgium, France, Italy, Ireland, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain, and Switzerland.
