July 1 Natural gas company restarts hardship fund

British Gas restarts hardship fund scheme for non-customers.

They will provide donations of up to £1,500 to those in need.

To be eligible for payment, a person must be resident in England, Wales or Scotland and have a previous outstanding debt with an energy provider.

To be eligible for a grant worth £250-750, you must also have savings of no more than £1,000 and seek prior financial help.

July 6 National Insurance (NI) changes come into effect

From July 6, the National Insurance threshold has been raised from £9,980 to £12,570.

July 14 Start of payment of living allowance

Millions of people on welfare benefits will receive £326 of their £650 living expenses this month.

July 31 Tax credits renewal deadline

If you have previously claimed tax credits, then you need to check that your accounts are up to date and that they are accurate and valid.

If you have received a letter from HMRC reminding you to update your account, you will need to report any changes that have occurred.

July 31 Deadline for self-employed tax payment

If you are self-employed, you will have until July 31 to process your second “payment on account” bill.

Account payments are two advance payments that most self-assessment taxpayers must make each year.

It is mostly calculated based on your tax return from the previous year.

You’d better check with your accountant and pay the money before the deadline to avoid unnecessary hassle.
