It has been revealed by an organisation for grocery retailers in Sweden that during 2019, sales in the grocery trade increased by 3.1%. The growth for online grocery shopping in particular was massive at 21.9%, a notable increase in comparison to store grocery sales which only increased by 2.8%. The offline grocery industry also grew by only 2.7% in December 2019, whereas online grocery sales in the same period grew by 23.8%.

It is obvious that online grocery sales are growing at a much quicker rate than sales in physical grocery stores – this may be due to the fact there are an increasing number of food delivery services available to online customers in Sweden, making it easier for consumers to request groceries to be delivered to their doorstep.
